The Quality Engineer/Tester is responsible for the development and execution of manual and automated tests to ensure the highest possible product quality. The QA Engineer/Tester will work within a small team comprised of QA Testers and Development in a fast-paced, challenging, and growing environment to implement and execute test strategies. This is a hands-on systems tester role focused on executing testing activities.
The tester*s main goal is to discover and communicate problems with the product that could adversely impact its value. The tester must understand the context for the project and help others to make informed decisions based on this context. A key goal for the tester is to find and report the significant defects in the product by testing the product. Once a defect is found, it is also the tester*s job to accurately communicate its impact and describe any workaround solutions that could lessen its impact. The tester makes defect descriptions and steps for recreating the defects easy to understand and follow. The tester participates with the entire team in setting the quality standards for the product.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute test cases using test plans and project specifications.
Create clear, concise, detail oriented test scripts and test cases based on functional specifications
Investigate and report any defects encountered diligently, promptly, and accurately, using standard defect tracking tools.
Clearly and accurately communicates observations and provides clear and thorough information to reproduce test results.
Communicate with development, product management, and customer stakeholders where necessary
Perform both new functionality and regression tests; identify, analyze and report issues for follow-up
Ensure the integrity of test material
Work with other departments to monitor and improve quality processes
Perform customer-focused business analyst duties on occasion
Other duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned
Day to Day Activities
Review product and system functional requirements and create test plans and test cases to ensure that overall quality is delivered.
Execute manual and automated test cases and scripts.
Document and validate resolution of identified defects.
Assist in implementing improvements in test methods and strategies.
Escalate quality concerns to management.
Requirements:
Understanding of business process flow.
Strong analytical, problem solving and judgment skills along with knowledge of theoretical and practical engineering principles Knowledge of theoretical and practical engineering principles
Knowledge of client-server, stand-alone, java-based software development, and a clear understanding of the role of testing in a software development organization.
Ability to identify testable statements contained in requirements and specifications documents and devise and run appropriate tests, and have a strong track record as a software defect finder/reporter.
Experience efficiently working with relational databases (such as DB2 and SQL Server) using SQL.
A positive, quality-oriented, reliable, organized, and flexible individual with an ability to work in a fast-paced, client-focused, dynamic environment.
Must have experience with Microsoft Windows and Office technologies.
Knowledge of software test tools, including defect tracking software.
Able to communicate effectively with business and engineering technology personnel.
A passion for technology and the ability to work and learn in a rapidly changing environment is a must
Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, define problems, and develop a means or method to resolve them.
Strong attentions to detail with proven verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Ability to work independently or within a team environment.
Professional Qualifications:
Three or more years of software testing/programming experience in a professional software development environment.
Experience with Business and QA Testing Process Models.
Demonstrated experience developing and executing test procedures.
Prior working knowledge of Workflow applications.
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor*s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or software test related experience/knowledge.
